New Ethics Code Introduced

Bernalillo County Commissioner Maggie Hart Stebbins will present a comprehensive, updated County Code of Ethics to govern County elected officials and employees at the next Commission Meeting.  

Commissioner Hart Stebbins stated that the proposal is a proactive step to establish clear, consistent, and enforceable ethical standards for the County.  “The County’s ethics ordinance was last updated in the mid 1970’s. There’s a clear need to bring Bernalillo County into the 21st century so that we’re in compliance with state law and taxpayers are confident that county resources are being used appropriately.”

Commissioner De La Cruz Asks GE to Provide Definite Plan

Bernalillo County Commissioner Art De La Cruz will meet this afternoon with both General Electric Company managers and union representatives to determine if GE will keep the New Mexico plant open.   Commissioner De La Cruz has met with both sides during this negotiation period, however, this will be the first joint meeting where both sides are at the table with a government official.  GE announced plans earlier this summer to close its Albuquerque facility by fall 2010. The plant employs about 400 workers and has been producing airplane engine parts here since the late 1960s.

Village of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque and Bernalillo County Fire Department Have Merged

 

The Village of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque and the Bernalillo County Fire Department have agreed to a merger to better serve the Fire and Rescue needs of Village residents. Bernalillo County Commission Chair Alan Armijo and Los Ranchos Mayor Larry Abraham will be on hand for a news conference to explain the merger along with Bernalillo County Fire Chief John Garcia.

A fire call came in on Thurs. July 9 to Bernalillo County Fire Station 2. When they arrived at the fire scene on Bridge Blvd. and Gatewood Road in the South Valley, Station 2’s crew was unique. In what was a rare event, an all female crew were the first responders to the scene.

Bernalillo County announces the launch of a discount card program to help consumers cope with the high price of prescription drugs. The County is making prescription drug discount cards available under a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo) that offers average savings of 20 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs.

Bernalillo County Kicks Off the East Mountain Summer Concert Series

 
Bernalillo County’s Los Vecinos Community Center will proudly host its second annual East Mountain Summer Concert Series.  Every Friday night for the next eight weeks from 6:00pm to 8:00pm a musical group will play for the community.  All of the performances are free to the public.  Over the course of the concert series, music will range from country to jazz to classic rock and roll.  No performance is scheduled over the July 4th holiday weekend.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Scheduled For Amistad Youth Crisis Shelter
