In response to the GE plant closure, Commissioner De La Cruz will direct the Bernalillo County Office of Economic Development to meet with local realtors, the Chamber of Commerce, and local businesses to develop a revitalization and use plan for the Woodward facility.   This plan would include an economic summit.  Commissioner De La Cruz has also directed that the Office work with Mesa Del Sol, the COG and CNM South Valley Campus to address worker retraining and placement.

The 475 lost jobs have an estimated impact on the local economy of more than $30 million in salaries annually.  It is also estimated that because of the closure, the impact will be 1,033 lost indirect jobs.
