10/20/2009 Bernalillo County Clerk Offers Safe And Green Way To Buy Copies Of Documents
The Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office now offers online document sales to the community as an easier way to access public records. The convenience of online document access is already paying off for Bernalillo County citizens.
“The eCommerce initiative can be described as “green” because it reduces the need for citizens to drive downtown to retrieve their recorded documents. In fact, if a customer doesn’t need a certified copy, they can even have their documents emailed, saving paper. Anyone can search, locate and buy official, recorded documents online,” says Clerk Maggie Toulouse Oliver.
Types of documents typically purchased from the Clerk’s office include: Real Estate Documents, Marriage Licenses, and Plats/Maps. Once secure online payment is made with a credit card, the copies will be sent out via USPS, Federal Express, UPS, or Fax/Email depending on the shipping method specified.
Since implementing “eCommerce” in August, Clerk Toulouse Oilver says the program is exceeding her expectations. The eCommerce initiative is the second in a series of online/electronic customer service initiatives implemented by the Clerk’s Office since Oliver took office. Last year, the Clerk’s office successfully implemented electronic document recording (known as “eRecording,”) utilized primarily by local title companies, which has recently surpassed in-person document recording in volume.
In implementing the eCommerce initiative, the Clerk says her primary concern was security. “I wanted to know that the new eCommerce document sales program was safe and secure for the public. I also wanted citizens to have an easy way of obtaining documents without driving downtown. Our eCommerce initiative is secure, convenient and green.”
The Bernalillo County Clerk’s eCommerce program is stable and secure for credit card users. Clerk Toulouse Oliver wanted the service to be as reliable and safe as the companion eRecording program which recently won a Technical Excellence award. “Title companies are now recording over ten thousand transactions online monthly without comprising security.” Clerk Toulouse Oliver confirmed.
Security is critical and the Clerk’s eCommerce program is safe:
- Bernalillo County DOES NOT store users’ Credit Card information
- Credit Card data is not stored or shared.
- Order information is transferred using encrypted SSL (Secure Sockets Layer)
To try out the eCommerce program, start at the Clerk’s document search service, simply agree to the terms, then try it out. You can search and look around without buying documents. For more information contact the Clerk’s office at 505.468.1231 or visit the Clerk’s web page. |
