The Leopold Legacy Film Series features a series of films being shown throughout New Mexico that speaks to Aldo Leopold’s message of land ethics, wilderness management, ecology, and connections and observations of nature.

The first event in the series takes place this Friday, August 7, 2009 at 5:30pm at the CABQ Open Space Visitor Center. It will start off with esteemed guest speakers reading selections from Aldo Leopold’s works. Then Ann Adams from Holistic Management International will talk about her connection to the featured film, The First Millimeter: Healing the Earth. The film which delves into issues with ranchers and farmers managing land holistically and explaining how grazing animals and working with nature can return land to health will begin at 8:00pm. The public is invited to bring blankets, chairs and picnics. Tickets are $2.00 at the door; children 12 and under are free, cash or checks only. Proceeds will benefit the Aldo Leopold Centennial Celebration.

The Leopold Legacy Film Series also includes a film competition where filmmakers of all ages are invited to submit a short film. There are two categories: 5 minutes or less, or 15-20 minutes in length.  The deadline for submission is Saturday, August 31 and the competition showing will take place on September 11, 2009. Please visit www.bernco.gov/openspace for more details.
