The Bernalillo County Fire Department’s fleet is going through a long needed upgrade. The familiar yellow/green color associated with the BCFD vehicles is being replaced with new red and black units.

In October of 2008, 3 Pierce Quantum pumper trucks were placed at Stations 32, 33 and 34 in the South Valley. This year, one new pumper truck has been placed at Station 5 on Tramway & Paseo del Norte, new rescue units are now in place at Station 8, Rio Bravo and Prince in the South Valley and Station 1 at Alameda and 2nd Street NW. Also at Station 1, is the crown jewel of the fleet, a new ladder truck.

“These vehicles were purchased with the community’s safety as our prime concern along with that of Bernalillo County personnel.” says Commission Chair Art De La Cruz. “Working with this brand new, state of the art equipment, our firefighters on the frontlines can better protect the lives, homes and property of the public we serve.”

These trucks replace vehicles that were originally purchased in the early 1990’s, that have outlived their expected 10 year life spans. Also, in early fall, we will be unveiling a new, Type 3 Wildland Fire Truck to help with bosque fires and wildland fires in the east mountains and Pajarito Mesa.
